February Collab

Local Sacred Space

Most of us can live in an area all our lives and not know of any sacred places around them. This month's challenge is to write about a local sacred place near where you live. Look into any legends about it, relate any stories you have been told, any experiences you've had there (if you've visited it). If you don't know any, the challenge is to investigate if there is something you are missing!

Well, I don’t really have a sacred place here, yet. I am hoping to find one, someday. I know I have written about my Grove in Germany, when I wrote about my First Experience with a ritual

So, I did some checking. I sent out questions to some local, Kansas pagan groups, and asked for input. I received some great information, and many places I would love to check out sometime! There really are some great and helpful people in my area, and I couldn’t have written this collab without them!

One Lady, "ladycrimson33" yahoo-dev-null@yahoo-inc.com wrote
"Merry We Meet.
This sounds great. I have lived in Kansas all my life. I'm a Pieces so Water is my power along with Neptune. The only thing close to the ocean and all her beauty is the Arkansas River to me. Because it feeds from The Gulf of Mexico (New Orleans) This River extends for miles and is a strong and powerful vein. She has the most power And in places Beauty that takes my breath away.
I belong to a local gun club. We have this place on the river that is in Oxford. Close to the old mill. Being a member I go there often for events and on the Sabbets (my little secret) This place is closed off to all the big lights and sounds. You can fill your cabinet with great herbs in the summer. And the sandy little beaches are great for a bonfire on a dark night. Of course all the stars, Lady Luna and the Deities Watch over you as you conjour. I have a telescope just to see them closer and take in there awwwww. And I don't have to pack up and come home. I sleep there in the arms of our Mother earth. This is my Magick place. OHH and the coyotes, and other little creatures Are there with me. I have this one coyote (Orion) that will sit 10 feet away and stair at me. He knows I have a piece of meat for him from my stew. Well this is my little story there are a few to tell. Excuse the typing for I am a Witch, not a journalist. (giggles)
Merry We Part~~~”

She continues in another email and says
"Merry Meet, I live in Wichita. The north end. But I go to Oxford often. To that place along the beautiful Arkansas. I have an aunt that lives in Winfield I go there a lot to. Then I have a real close friend in Belle Plain that I visit often. As you can guess my poor little car has a lot of miles on it (GRINS) I will sometimes just get in it and go till I find a spot that is dark and no one around. (blushes) I have hopped many fences. But I only found one bull that was mean. And not as fast as I. I think on it now and laugh. And the sweater I was wearing that day is no longer in my closet. (giggles)As a wisemanonce said...""A bull can only gourd you if he can see you."" But that sweater wasn't his color...
You know something else sweets. Kansas has the Flint Hills They are awesome and so powerful It slays me. I use a lot of that flint in my workings and it hasn't failed me yet. I use it to light all my bonfires with. All you need is a good piece of steal to go with it.”

Ah, yes, The Flint Hills
I found some magical pictures of Dusk in the Kansas Flint Hills

One of my favorite things about Kansas is the clouds. I found some pictures of Kansas, including pix of various clouds and places in the Flint Hills in Mark Dunn Flint Hills Pictures Collection

This list would not be complete without a plug for my friend’s pages. She is a magnificent photographer. You can find some gorgeous pictures of Kansas and Idaho on these pages.

We used to have a sacred place near here. Fortunately, I did visit it before it was destroyed. The Louis Vieux Elm

I grew up next to a sacred place, and never visited until I was older. Mushroom Rock State Park is absolutely gorgeous.

When I first went to college, we used to party at a place called Pillsbury Crossing. It never looked this good back then, we never had all the water, but if it looks like this now, I really need to visit it again. It is absolutely gorgeous!!

Well, from searching on the web, I have found some gorgeous places. Kansas Photo Tour has some great places here in Kansas.

I don’t know which of these places are truly sacred but….

I forgot who sent me this one, but I loved it in it’s simplicity.

You know sacred places are everywhere you look-what makes them sacred is how we see them in our hearts. In fact ALL places are sacred, but that's just my opinion.

Blessed Be!!!
